Upgrade compatible Twin Cam touring engines with the S&S Cycle 551G Gear Drive Camshaft Kit, Part Number 330-0100. Designed for engines with 96 to 106 cubic inches and compression ratios from 9:1 up to 9.9:1, this bolt-in cam set is suitable for stock or mildly modified applications. The 551G profile is engineered to deliver stronger performance across the rpm range, with a particular emphasis on improved low- and midrange torque from approximately 1,000 to 4,000 rpm.
The gear-drive design reverses the rear cam’s direction of rotation, creating additional operating clearance between the cam lobes. This clearance allows higher cam lifts while helping improve valve timing accuracy by eliminating timing chain lash and the looseness associated with the stock chain system. The result is consistent cam timing and responsive power delivery for riders seeking practical performance gains without an extensively modified engine combination. Due to the inherent characteristics of gear drives, some increase in valvetrain noise may occur during operation.
This S&S Cycle kit includes inner and outer gears, inner and outer bearings, gaskets, and installation instructions. Installation requires material removal from the inner surface of the stock gear cover, along with a hydraulic press and other professional-level tools. Cam bearings and gaskets must be replaced when installing new cams, and S&S Cycle recommends using an adjustable pushrod and cover kit. The kit is not recommended for engines with compression ratios of 10:1 or greater. Before operation, the installer must verify coil bind, valve-to-valve clearance, and valve-to-piston clearance.
