The S&S Cycle 570G Gear Drive Camshaft Kit is designed for compatible Twin Cam engines using compression ratios from 9:1 to 10:1. This performance camshaft kit is strongest in the 3,200 to 3,700 rpm range, making it a practical choice for riders seeking improved valve timing accuracy and responsive mid-range performance. Part 33-5178 replaces the loosely fitted stock chain drive with a precision gear-drive system that eliminates timing chain lash and helps maintain accurate cam timing.
The gear-drive design reverses the rear camshaft’s direction of rotation, creating additional operating clearance between the cam lobes and allowing higher cam lifts. Installation requires material removal from the inner surface of the stock gear cover, along with a hydraulic press and other professional-level tools. S&S Cycle recommends using an adjustable pushrod and cover kit with this camshaft installation. Cam bearings and the gasket must be replaced whenever new cams are installed.
This kit includes camshafts, a gear cover gasket, cam bearings, an oil passage block-off kit, retaining ring, O-ring, and inner and outer gears. The components are made in the USA and engineered for demanding performance applications. Because gear drives naturally produce more mechanical noise than chain-drive systems, some additional valvetrain sound may be present during operation. Before completing installation, the installer must verify coil bind, valve-to-valve clearance, and valve-to-piston clearance to confirm proper compatibility and safe operating conditions.
