This complete camshaft and gear-drive system reverses the rear camshaft’s direction of rotation, creating additional operating clearance between the cam lobes and allowing higher cam lifts. The 583G camshaft profile is engineered to deliver strong low-end torque and horsepower, with its strongest performance characteristics occurring from 1,500 to 5,000 rpm. Professional-level installation is required. Material must be removed from the inner surface of the stock gear cover, and installation requires a hydraulic press and other specialized tools. Cam bearings and gaskets must be replaced during installation. S&S Cycle recommends using an adjustable pushrod and cover kit, sold separately. After installation, the installer must verify coil bind, valve-to-valve clearance, and valve-to-piston clearance. Due to the inherent characteristics of gear drives, increased valvetrain noise may be noticeable during operation. This kit is not recommended for engines with compression ratios greater than 10.1:1.
