The S&S Cycle 585G Gear Drive Camshaft Kit is designed for Twin Cam engines using 88, 96, 103, or 110 cubic-inch configurations and compression ratios from 10.0:1 to 10.5:1. Part number 33-5268 reverses the rear camshaft’s direction of rotation, creating additional operating clearance between the cam lobes and allowing higher cam lifts. This kit is engineered for performance-oriented applications with recommended operating ranges of 3,500 to 6,000 rpm for 88 to 103 cubic-inch engines and 2,500 to 5,500 rpm for larger engines.
The gear-drive design improves valve timing accuracy by eliminating chain lash and the looseness associated with the stock chain drive. Because gear drives have inherent operating characteristics, increased valvetrain noise may occur. Installation requires material removal from the inner surface of the stock gear cover, along with a hydraulic press and other professional-level tools. S&S Cycle recommends using adjustable pushrods and pushrod covers with this camshaft kit.
