Upgrade compatible Harley-Davidson Twin Cam applications with the S&S Cycle 585G Gear Drive Camshaft Kit, Part Number 33-5179. Designed for 88-, 96-, 103-, and 110-cubic-inch engines with compression ratios from 10.0:1 to 10.5:1, this kit reverses the rear camshaft’s direction of rotation to provide additional operating clearance between cam lobes. The increased clearance allows for higher cam lifts while supporting performance-oriented engine builds.
The gear drive system improves valve timing accuracy by eliminating the lash associated with the stock chain drive and its loosely fitted components. Recommended operating ranges are 3,500 to 6,000 rpm for 88- through 103-cubic-inch engines and 2,500 to 5,500 rpm for larger applications. Due to the inherent characteristics of gear drives, increased valvetrain noise may occur during operation. S&S Cycle recommends using adjustable pushrods and pushrod covers with this camshaft kit.
Professional-level installation is required. A hydraulic press and other specialized tools are necessary, and material must be removed from the inner surface of the stock gear cover for proper installation. Cam bearings and gaskets must be replaced when installing new camshafts. The installer must also verify coil bind, valve-to-valve clearance, and valve-to-piston clearance before operating the engine. The kit includes camshafts, inner gears, outer gears, inner and outer bearings, a gasket, and installation instructions. Made in the USA by S&S Cycle.
