The S&S Cycle Easy Start Camshaft Kit, Part 106-5289, is designed for Big Twin engines with 583 chain drive applications from 1999 through 2006, excluding 2006 Dyna models. This bolt-in camshaft kit uses an automatic compression release to make starting easier by temporarily reducing crank compression during engine cranking. As engine speed increases, the compression release lobe centrifugally retracts, allowing the engine to operate with full compression and without sacrificing performance.
Optimized as an all-around camshaft for Softail and Dyna models, the S&S Cycle 106-5289 kit can also be used in other compatible Big Twin applications. It delivers strong low-end torque and horsepower, with its strongest performance range occurring from approximately 1,500 rpm to 5,000 rpm in Softail and Dyna models. The camshaft profile is suited to riders seeking improved street performance, responsive acceleration, and dependable operation across a practical engine-speed range.
The kit includes camshafts, a gear cover gasket, bearings, retaining ring, O-ring, thread locker, and installation instructions. Manufactured in the USA, this kit is intended for qualified installation and setup. The installer must verify coil bind, valve-to-valve clearance, and valve-to-piston clearance before operation. It is not intended for models equipped with original equipment compression releases and is not recommended for engines with compression ratios of 10.0:1 or higher. Confirm vehicle compatibility, engine specifications, and installation requirements before ordering.
